Important application deadlines for doctors planning GP training in Australia: FSP and AGPT intake dates 2026

Introduction
Planning to start GP training in Australia in 2026? You’ve gotta get ready way ahead of time. The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) provides two big routes: the Australian General Practice Training Program (AGPT) and the Fellowship Support Program (FSP). If you miss their strict deadlines, you could face delays of several months, or even until the following year.
The key dates for applying to AGPT and FSP in 2026 will determine your entry into their programs for 2027. This includes hitting up the right times for the National Entry Assessment, waiting out for offers, and starting your training when offered.
For the AGPT 2027 round, you’ll need to submit applications in 2026. Typically, AGPT applications usually become available from March to April. Training spots are then up for grabs across different regions and pathways during the main intake round.. Additional intake rounds may also occur depending on the availability of remaining training places.

RACGP states that from 2027.1 onward, the FSP will have a new structure, education model, and entry requirements, with greater upfront support and better alignment with RACGP educational frameworks.
AGPT vs FSP: Which intake should you prepare for?
The AGPT program, funded by the government, is a key path for those looking to get structured general practice training through either RACGP or ACRRM. For RACGP AGPT, remember that the main application window for 2026 runs from March 3 to April 14, 2026.
The FSP, which is self-funded and through RACGP, suits doctors already in general practice, like non-VR doctors and IMGs, who want a structured way to earn fellowship credentials. This pathway comes with its own set of rules for eligibility, training sites, supervisors, and assessments.
If you’re aiming to start GP training in 2026, keep these dates handy:
- FSP 2026.2, applications were available from January 13 and had to be in by February 5, 2026. Training then kicks off on July 6, 2026.
- AGPT 2027 Main Intake: Applications opened on 3 March 2026 and closed on 14 April 2026.
- AGPT 2027 Second Intake: Applications opened on 7 July 2026 and closed on 28 July 2026, but places are limited.
- FSP 2027.1 opened applications on 2 June 2026 and closed them on 23 June 2026, with training set to start on 4 January 2027.
Prospective fellows should prepare ahead of time. Make sure you check eligibility, collect needed documents, and know all the procedures. Don’t forget to prep for the National Entry Assessment too. Missing deadlines can seriously hold up your fellowship process, so stay on top of things.
