The Situational Judgement Test (SJT) is a computer-based test and features a mixture of knowledge test questions and situational judgement test questions.

This test is based on the RACGP domains of general practice in the Curriculum and syllabus for Australian General Practice and focuses on the knowledge, skills and attributes necessary to become a GP.

The SJT written and interview contribute equally to your AGPT selection assessment score. (We offer a 1 hour mock interview included in your subscription)

All questions have the same weighting. You score Band will decide where you will doing your training in the future.

You should allow sufficient practice to ace the test. These tests are different from the UCAT.

As a general practitioner, you have received multiple complaints about a junior doctor, Mark, making inappropriate jokes regarding colleagues losing their jobs, creating an uncomfortable work environment. Today, you witness one such incident involving Amanda, a fellow junior doctor, who is the target of one of Mark's jokes. The situation escalates as Amanda appears visibly upset. How do you address this situation to maintain a professional work environment, uphold workplace standards, and support both Amanda and Mark in addressing the inappropriate behavior? What actions would you take to ensure that such behavior is not tolerated and that all colleagues feel respected and valued? Choose 1 correct response

As a general practitioner taking over a shift from a colleague, Darren, you are informed that he has had no patients, but you notice his abrupt departure and the discarded lanyard, which raises concerns. You suspect that Darren may have had patients during his shift, but you lack the necessary details to confirm this. With patient care and professional accountability in mind, how do you proceed to ensure that all patients receive appropriate care and that the handover is complete? What steps do you take to clarify the situation, investigate any potential discrepancies, and maintain a professional approach in handling any gaps in patient management while addressing concerns about Darren's behavior? Choose 1 correct response

As a general practitioner, you witness a junior doctor reacting aggressively towards a patient, Benjamin, who has started filming him without permission. In response, the junior doctor retaliates by filming Benjamin and yelling at him, escalating the situation. The patient's family, who is present, becomes visibly concerned and upset by the exchange. This behavior threatens to undermine the professional environment and may impact the trust between the medical team and the patient. How do you intervene in this situation to de-escalate the conflict, ensure professional conduct is maintained, and address the concerns of the family while protecting patient rights and dignity? What steps do you take to manage both the junior doctor’s behavior and the patient's family’s concerns appropriately? Choose 1 correct response

As a general practitioner in training, you are asked by your consultant to administer an intravenous (IV) line to a patient, two days after receiving a demonstration on the procedure. Despite the recent demonstration, you still feel unprepared and anxious about performing the procedure independently, given your limited experience and confidence in executing it properly. You understand the importance of patient safety and the potential risks involved in administering an IV incorrectly. How do you approach this situation, balancing your responsibility to ensure the patient receives safe care while also considering your own professional development and need for further training or guidance before performing the procedure? Choose 1 correct response

As a general practitioner working the night shift, you notice that your patient, Joel, is struggling to sleep due to persistent noise coming from the nurse station. He appears restless and frustrated, expressing his discomfort about the disturbance. Adequate rest is crucial for his recovery, but you also recognize that the nurses are engaged in essential duties and communication is necessary for patient care. Balancing Joel’s need for a quiet environment with the operational requirements of the ward presents a challenge. How do you address this situation in a way that ensures Joel gets the rest he needs while maintaining a professional and cooperative atmosphere among the healthcare staff? Choose 1 correct response

As a general practitioner, you are having a conversation with your colleague, who expresses deep frustration with the hospital’s teaching standards, stating that they feel unsupported in their training and are seriously considering transferring to another institution. While you acknowledge that medical training can be challenging, you personally believe that the hospital provides a good learning environment with valuable opportunities for growth. Your colleague seems disheartened and uncertain about their future, and you want to address their concerns without dismissing their experiences. How do you approach this discussion in a professional and supportive manner while maintaining a positive collegial relationship and encouraging your colleague’s professional development? Choose 1 correct response

As a general practitioner, you are approached by Kayla, a GP trainee, who asks why it is necessary to record the time and date on patient records. She appears eager to learn but seems unaware of the potential legal, ethical, and clinical implications of incomplete documentation. Given the importance of accurate record-keeping for patient safety, continuity of care, and medico-legal protection, you recognize this as a valuable teaching moment. How do you respond to Kayla’s question in a way that effectively educates her on best practices while fostering a supportive and encouraging learning environment? Choose 1 correct response

After completing your evening shift as a general practitioner, you arrive home only to realize that you have forgotten to hand over crucial blood test results for Mr. Fernandez, a patient with limited English proficiency. The paperwork, which includes important diagnostic information, is still in your pocket, and you are aware that these results could significantly impact the patient’s care and treatment plan. Given Mr. Fernandez's communication challenges and the urgency of the results, you are concerned about the potential delay in addressing his medical needs. How do you handle this situation to ensure proper continuity of care, uphold professional responsibility, and maintain patient safety, all while addressing the communication barriers that may complicate the process? Choose 1 correct response

You are a general practitioner who has been informed by a colleague that Bradley, another GP trainee, is working in a private healthcare setting during his training, which violates the hospital's established rules. The situation has been brought to your attention by a trusted colleague, and you are aware that such actions could have serious implications on Bradley's training, professional standing, and the integrity of the hospital’s policies. However, you also value maintaining a collegial and supportive relationship with your fellow trainees. How do you address this situation to ensure that Bradley is held accountable while still fostering a positive, respectful environment and maintaining professional conduct within the workplace? Choose 1 correct response

You are a general practitioner who has been caring for a patient recently lost to cancer. Following the patient's death, your consultant has raised concerns about a potential underlying genetic condition and, with the family’s initial consent, arranged for a post-mortem to further investigate this possibility. However, Neil, the patient's son, has expressed discomfort with the decision and now questions the necessity of the post-mortem. He is clearly upset and uncertain about the process, causing tension between his wishes and the professional recommendation. How do you address Neil's concerns with empathy and clarity, ensure that the family feels heard and respected, while also maintaining a professional and supportive relationship with your consultant and the rest of the medical team? Choose 1 correct response

You are a general practitioner starting your shift in the geriatric ward when an elderly patient, who appears to be in significant distress and pain, requests a laxative. The patient mentions not having had a bowel movement for over 48 hours and is clearly uncomfortable. Upon reviewing the patient's notes, you find no clear indication as to why a previous doctor refused to prescribe a laxative. Given the patient's age and medical history, you are concerned about the potential risks of over-prescribing medications without proper investigation. How do you approach this situation, balancing the need for immediate relief with a thorough assessment to ensure both patient comfort and safety, while also following appropriate clinical guidelines and protocols? Choose 1 correct response
